Hi, welcome to my blog

Updated: Aug 20, 2020

When my hubby, Mr rose&grace ("r&g") called me on his way home from work to suggest that we should go "vegan" I was a bit shocked and felt slightly panicked. What did this mean??? Would I be hungry all the time and worse still feared that I would be become iron and calcium depleted and that my bones would start to break! ARGH!

However I didn't want to be outdone (that's my competitive streak coming out), so agreed to try it for 6 weeks to see if it miraculously made me "healthier". I had always suffered from very painful ulcers in my mouth which I would treat with horrible, gluey paste that was designed to suffocate the ulcers. This treatment worked well from week to week... and there were days and days when the ulcers would not be overcome! I also was suffering from extreme tiredness and little red spots on my tummy.

Mr r&g and I agreed that we would eliminate all animal products (including fish) from our diet as well as all dairy products. In their place we increased our vegetable, grains, seeds, nuts, beans, lentils and plant based milk intake. The results for me were almost immediate! My skin became a lot softer, I have never suffered from ulcers again, the red spots disappeared, that mid afternoon tiredness disappeared and was replaced with an incredible sense of energy. I even amazed my optometrist by my eye sight actually improving!

Last week I had my blood tested for iron, cholesterol, calcium and B12 for the first time since changing my diet. All the tests came back very good. Despite not eating red meat and dairy, which are commonly thought to provide the main sources of iron and calcium respectively, my iron and calcium levels were normal!
